Tether Introduces USDT on Ton Blockchain, Granting Stablecoin Access to Telegram Messaging Platform’s Userbase
Tether, the stablecoin issuer, is set to launch its dollar-pegged asset on the Open Network (TON), which will provide access to Telegram’s large user base. In an article, Tether announced that it will introduce both USDT and Tether Gold (XAUT) on the layer-1 protocol TON, expanding its coverage to 15 blockchains. Tether highlighted that Telegram’s instant messaging system allows for quick peer-to-peer payments worldwide. By integrating USDT and XAUT on TON, Tether aims to create a seamless and borderless experience for P2P payments for Telegram’s estimated 900 million global users. Tether believes that adding the world’s most popular stablecoin to TON will significantly enhance activity and liquidity on the blockchain. Additionally, Tether is already present on other notable blockchains such as Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, and Avalanche. This move follows Tether’s recent announcement of branching out its business model to include divisions in data, finance, education, and power, in order to create a comprehensive and future-proof financial and tech ecosystem.
