On-Chain Data Reveals Whale Who Purchased Bitcoin in 2014 Transfers $43,940,000 in BTC After Over a Decade of Dormancy

A wealthy cryptocurrency investor, known as a crypto whale, has gained attention for unexpectedly transferring tens of millions of dollars worth of Bitcoin (BTC) from a dormant wallet. Lookonchain, a blockchain tracking firm, reported that the investor emptied a wallet that had held 687.33 Bitcoin for over a decade. The transaction took place on May 6th, and the whale had received the Bitcoin on January 12th, 2014, when the price was $917. The address associated with the wallet is 15WZNLACuvcDrrBL2btDErJggnaMQtHh5G.

In related news, CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju revealed last month that newer crypto whales are accumulating almost twice as much Bitcoin as long-term holders. Ju also noted that old Bitcoin tokens were being transferred to new holders after the average dormancy rate reached a 13-year high.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading at $63,835, experiencing a slight decrease in the past 24 hours.

Additionally, Lookonchain has identified another whale who is currently sitting on significant profits after purchasing a large amount of Ethereum (ETH) last year. The on-chain monitoring platform reported that this investor has begun selling some of their holdings.

According to Lookonchain, the whale withdrew 12,906 ETH ($24.39 million) from Binance at a price of $1,890 a year ago and deposited it into Lido. On April 30th, when the market experienced a drop, the investor withdrew 7,000 ETH from Lido and deposited it back into Binance on May 6th. The profit made on the Ethereum investment exceeds $16 million.

At the time of writing, Ethereum is trading at $3,083, showing a 1.6% decrease in the past 24 hours.
