Former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao Declares Commitment to Retain Cryptocurrency as Passive Holder Following Prison Sentence
Binance’s founder and former CEO, Changpeng Zhao, remains undeterred in his commitment to the crypto industry despite receiving a prison sentence for violating US laws at the world’s largest digital asset exchange. Zhao took to social media platform X to share his plans following his sentencing on Tuesday, expressing gratitude for the support he has received and stating that he will use his time in prison to focus on education and the next chapter of his life. Despite his legal troubles, Zhao maintains a positive outlook on crypto and intends to continue holding crypto assets as a passive investor. He recognizes the importance of compliance in the industry and sees the silver lining in Binance being under scrutiny, ensuring that funds are secure. In November, Zhao stepped down as CEO after pleading guilty to breaking US anti-money laundering laws. While his lawyers requested probation, prosecutors sought a three-year prison sentence. Ultimately, US District Judge Richard Jones sentenced Zhao to four months in prison, emphasizing his failure to adhere to regulations despite having the necessary resources. Despite these challenges, Binance remains a prominent player in the crypto industry.
