Solana Emerges as the Fastest Blockchain on CoinGecko’s Ranking, Outpacing Ethereum by 46 Times.
Solana (SOL), the smart contract platform, is quickly rising to the top of CoinGecko’s ranking of the fastest blockchains. CoinGecko’s recent publication reveals that Solana is an astounding 46 times faster than its competitor Ethereum (ETH), which is the second-largest digital asset by market cap. This makes Solana the fastest large blockchain available.
Despite its speed, CoinGecko notes that Solana has only reached 1.6% of its maximum theoretical throughput. On April 6th of this year, amid the memecoin frenzy, Solana achieved a record high of 1,504 daily average transactions per second (TPS), solidifying its position as the fastest blockchain. Solana is not only 46 times faster than Ethereum, but it is also over five times faster than Polygon, which currently has the highest TPS among Ethereum scaling solutions.
However, even though Solana holds the title of the fastest blockchain, it has only achieved 1.6% of its theoretical maximum speed of 65,000 TPS. According to CoinGecko’s data, Solana’s highest throughput was 1,053.7 TPS, while Ethereum’s was a mere 22.70 TPS. The combined TPS of Ethereum and its top 10 layer-2 scaling solutions amounts to only 500, lagging behind Solana’s speed.
In addition to Solana, other fast blockchains on CoinGecko’s list include Sui Network (SUI), Binance Smart Chain (BSC), Polygon (MATIC), Toncoin (TON), Tron (TRON), Near Protocol (NEAR), and Avalanche (AVAX).
At the time of writing, Solana is trading at $172, reflecting a 7.63% increase in the past 24 hours.
