Starbucks, the coffee behemoth, reveals plans to discontinue their NFT Rewards Program.
Starbucks is discontinuing its loyalty program that rewards customers with non-fungible tokens (NFTs) created on the Polygon (MATIC) blockchain. The program, called Starbucks Odyssey, was introduced for beta testing in December 2022. Participants earn NFTs called “Journey Stamps” and bonus points by completing themed activities, which can be used to access benefits and interactive experiences. However, after nearly two years, Starbucks announced on Monday that the program will be discontinued. The coffee chain stated that Odyssey will end on March 31st, and members have until March 25th to complete their remaining Journeys. Starbucks explained that the beta phase of Odyssey must come to an end to make way for future developments as they continue to evolve the program.
Although Starbucks is ending the program, the Journey Stamps will still be accessible on the NFT marketplace Nifty Gateway. These digital collectibles can also be traded on other platforms. Starbucks stated, “The Odyssey marketplace will transition to the Nifty marketplace. You can continue to buy, sell, and transfer Odyssey stamps on the Nifty marketplace. You can withdraw your Stamps to an external wallet and trade on other platforms.”
Starbucks’ NFTs have garnered interest from collectors. The company’s Holiday Cheer Edition stamp, released on December 16th, 2022, was sold for an average price of $883.20. Additionally, the 2,000 Siren Collection stamps, priced at $100 each, sold out within minutes when they were launched in March of last year.
