Florida Resident Found Guilty in Aggressive Abduction Attack and Cryptocurrency Theft Operation

A Florida resident, 24-year-old Remy St. Felix, has been found guilty of orchestrating a criminal operation that not only pilfered cryptocurrencies but also involved abductions and violent assaults.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) unveiled in a recent **press release** that Remy St. Felix, hailing from West Palm Beach, was the brains behind a burglary ring that preyed on cryptocurrency holders from September 2022 through July 2023 across various states.

The DOJ reports that St. Felix, alongside his accomplices, would forcefully enter residences, abduct the occupants, and coerce them into transferring their digital currency holdings. Prior to these crimes, St. Felix and his gang would infiltrate the victims’ email accounts and perform reconnaissance.

Following the theft, the group would clean the stolen funds through the use of privacy-centric cryptocurrencies like Monero (**XMR**), as well as decentralized exchanges (DEXs) that operate without stringent know-your-customer (KYC) policies, and through “instant exchanges.”

Nicole M. Argentieri, the Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General and leader of the DOJ’s Criminal Division, stated, “St Felix and his gang singled out individuals nationwide for vicious residential break-ins, kidnappings, and thefts with the intent of looting cryptocurrencies. Despite their attempts to evade detection via secure messaging and anonymous monetary dealings, they were ultimately not out of reach for our persistent detectives and legal team.”

In an incident from April 2023, St. Felix and an associate forced entry into a home, restrained the inhabitants with zip ties, brandished a firearm, and while threatening the homeowner and their partner, managed to steal crypto assets valued at $150,000.

St. Felix was apprehended in July 2023 while planning another burglary, as per the DOJ. He faces nine charges and could receive a sentence ranging from a minimum of seven years to life imprisonment.
