JPMorgan Chase Account Loses 30000 as Criminal Purchases Car and Settles Payment for Girlfriend

A customer of JPMorgan Chase is taking legal action after the bank refused to reimburse her for thousands of dollars that were stolen from her account by a malicious individual.

Ebony Lucas, a real estate attorney, recently discovered that her highly active business account had been targeted by fraudulent transactions amounting to $30,000, as reported by CBS News Chicago.

Lucas noticed that some of the fraudulent transactions were linked to the last name “McNary,” prompting her to search her email for any correspondence. She found a match and confirmed that her company had communicated with someone named McNary in September regarding a home sale that never materialized. After providing McNary with instructions on how to wire money, including routing and bank account numbers, he disappeared.

However, just three days later, CBS reports that McNary began siphoning money from Lucas’ account, using it to buy a car and pay his girlfriend’s bills.

Lucas discovered that another woman’s name was also associated with her bank transactions, with over $12,000 worth of bills paid to Discover, Home Depot, and Floor and Décor. This woman, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that she had dated McNary.

Chase initially provided Lucas with a “provisional credit” for only a fraction of the stolen amount and subsequently denied all her fraud claims, stating that they must be filed within 30 days of the incident. However, Lucas argues that several of the fraudulent transactions occurred within this timeframe.

While Chase has not issued a statement regarding the lawsuit, the bank has stated that it is “working closely with our customer to dispute these charges on their behalf.”
