Real Vision’s chief digital assets analyst, Jamie Coutts, believes that the crypto sector, although still in its early stages, could continue its upward trend for a few more months. Coutts, who has over 32,100 followers on the social media platform X, predicts that crypto artificial intelligence (AI) agents will continue to perform well in the coming months.

Crypto AI agents are protocols designed to autonomously carry out tasks on behalf of users, such as interacting with blockchains and decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms, as well as trading and managing portfolios.

Coutts states, “The last major crypto hype cycle occurred from November 2020 to May 2021, lasting around six months. Subsectors like DeFi and NFTs had their hype cycles lasting between six to twelve months. Interest in AI agents in crypto began to surge in November 2024. Based on historical trends, this trend is expected to last at least another four months, and possibly longer. AI agents are unique as they unlock potential for both established and new use cases.”

However, the Real Vision analyst cautions that crypto AI agents may experience a significant correction after reaching the peak of the cycle. He advises users to be cautious and mindful of potential scams. Coutts believes that while there will be a massive sell-off as with every hype cycle, he suspects that this move still has room to grow.

According to CoinGecko, a cryptocurrency data aggregator, some of the top 100 digital assets by market cap in the AI-focused crypto projects category include Artificial Superintelligence Alliance (FET), Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL), and ai16z (AI16Z). The Artificial Superintelligence Alliance is a collaboration of various decentralized AI platforms aimed at accelerating the development of decentralized Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and Artificial Superintelligence (ASI). The Virtuals Protocol is a platform that facilitates co-ownership of AI agents. On the other hand, the ai16z crypto project utilizes AI-driven insights to guide investments in blockchain projects.
