Report Google Slapped with MindBoggling 20 Sextillion Fine for YouTubes Russian TV Blockade
Google has been slapped with an astronomical fine by a Russian court for blocking a group of television channels on YouTube. The court has imposed a fine of 2 undecillion rubles, which equates to approximately $20 decillion USD. This hefty penalty was imposed after Google blocked accounts belonging to pro-Russia and state-run media outlets, citing violations of sanctions legislation and trade rules.
According to reports from RBC, a Russia-based media outlet, the Russian media firms took legal action against Google, leading to the court’s decision. Initially, Google was ordered to pay a fine of 100,000 rubles, which has been doubling every week that the blocked channels remain inaccessible.
To put the magnitude of the fine into perspective, an “undecillion” is an enormous number with 36 zeros, while a “decillion” has 33 zeros. In simpler terms, the $20 decillion fine amounts to twenty-thousand-billion-billion-billion dollars.
It is worth noting that Alphabet, Google’s parent company, recorded a net profit of $73.8 billion in the fiscal year 2023, showing an increase from $60 billion in 2022.
