The individual in charge of compliance at the notorious OneCoin cryptocurrency scheme, which amassed a staggering $4 billion, has been handed a four-year prison sentence.

A high-ranking executive involved in the fraudulent cryptocurrency enterprise known as OneCoin has been sentenced to several years in prison for her role in the worldwide multi-level marketing (MLM) scam that swindled billions from unsuspecting victims.

OneCoin, which was founded in 2014 by Ruja Ignatova, commonly referred to as the “crypto queen,” and Karl Sebastian Greenwood, promised to compensate members who recruited individuals to purchase counterfeit cryptocurrency packages.

According to OneCoin’s promotional materials, over three million people invested in their cryptocurrency packages, resulting in $4.38 billion in sales revenue and $2.96 billion in profits between 2014 and 2016.

The Justice Department announced on Wednesday that U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos has sentenced Irina Dilkinska, OneCoin’s head of legal and compliance, to four years in prison.

In November, Dilkinska pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering in connection with her involvement in the OneCoin scheme.

Prosecutors argued that instead of ensuring OneCoin’s compliance with the law, the 42-year-old Bulgarian national helped the company launder money, including $110 million in fraudulent proceeds that were transferred to a Cayman Island entity.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams stated, “Irina Dilkinska’s participation in the extensive OneCoin pyramid scheme was a blatant breach of trust. Rather than upholding the law and fulfilling her role as the Head of Legal and Compliance, she actively facilitated and engaged in money laundering, contributing to the exploitation of millions of victims. As demonstrated today, our office will hold all perpetrators of the OneCoin scheme accountable, regardless of their attempts to hide.”

In addition to her four-year prison sentence, Dilkinska has been ordered to forfeit $111,440,000. She will also be subject to one month of supervised release.
